Description of Role

The analytical methods currently used in the IEC for the detection of such compounds include Enzyme Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay (ELISA), Biochip Array Technology and Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography-Time-Of-Flight Mass Spectrometry (UPLC/TOF-MS).  In order to further develop our capabilities in forensics testing, the laboratory recently acquired an Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography – tandem Mass Spectrometer (UPLC-MS/MS).

Key Deliverables

The successful candidate will work as directed by the Head of the Laboratory on the development of analytical methods in UPLC MS/MS for the detection of a range of compounds in numerous matrices. The candidate will also work on the validation and preparation of accreditation of methods to the INAB 17025 standard.

The ideal candidate would possess a strong ability to work to deadlines within a busy laboratory while maintaining high standards.

Skills & Knowledge Requirements

Required:

A Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Science (BSc or MSc) or related discipline with strong emphasis in Chemistry/ Analytical Science / Biochemistry. Experience in HPLC, uPLC, LC-MS, sample preparation and clean up techniques and experience of working in a chemistry laboratory.

In addition, the ideal candidate would have:

  • Experience working in regulated/accredited laboratory (preferably ISO 17025);
  • Knowledge and/or experience of method validation and quality standards;
  • A strong ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team; good troubleshooting ability;
  • The ability to work to deadlines within this busy laboratory; and
  • Experience with LIMS.
